Payroll Specialist

 

SPAR Canada is recruiting for an experienced, organized and knowledgeable Payroll Specialist. In this role, you will be accountable for processing, completing and auditing two payrolls within Workday together with providing timely and accurate payroll reporting to the business.  You will possess a comprehensive understanding of legislative requirements with respect to employee and employer taxes, payroll rules and provincial earnings and deductions to ensure compliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for executing and processing two payrolls, one on a bi-weekly cadence and one on a semi-monthly cadence within Workday and completing the settlement ticket.
  • Accountable for payroll projects and for providing timely and accurate payroll reporting and data to the business as required.
  • Accountable for full life cycle payroll responsibilities including after pay; monthly; and yearly reconciliation and quarterly and year-end tasks. 
  • Communicate payroll information and updates with employees and the internal team including obtaining relevant information and approvals required for payroll processing. 
  • Address and resolve any employee inquiries regarding payroll deposit, etc. 
  • Work with HR team to audit and ensure Workday employee and pay information is accurate and kept up-to-date with respect to payroll related actions (leave, pay changes, employee details, payment elections, etc.). 
  • Responsible for producing payroll reports on core HR processes (i.e. absences, pay information, headcount, turnover and monthly vacancy reports). 
  • Responsible for audit of both payrolls and responding to external auditor requests, payroll investigations and any special payroll related projects. 
  • Keep up-to-date with relevant legislation changes, by province, and ensure company compliance. 

 

Position Requirements:

  • Must be comfortable working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Proven experience with accurately processing payroll within Workday required.
  • Critical thinker, ability to pivot and expert knowledge of payroll fundamentals and legislation.
  • Possess strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Results-driven professional with the ability to work independently and as part of the HR team.

 

Job Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education with a Payroll Compliance Practitioner designation preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience processing payroll within Workday.
  • 2+ years of experience processing multiple payrolls for Canadian employees.
